How Can You Be 100% Sure That You Are Going To Heaven?

What Must I Believe to Be Saved?

I Must Accept A Holy God’s Truthful Evaluation Of Me

Many years ago, during a time of political and moral crisis in the nation of Israel, the prophet Isaiah had a vision of God. In contrast with his immoral and crumbling nation, the God of Isaiah was proclaimed to be, “holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts.” (Isaiah 6:3) A holy and righteous God is the standard by which we all must be judged. We tend to view ourselves and those we love as good people, but by contrast God’s evaluation of us is based upon His own holy character as recorded in His Word the Bible.

For there is not a just man on earth who does good and does not sin. (Ecclesiastes 7:20, NKJV)

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23, NKJV)

It certainly appeals to human pride to believe that there is some good in each one of us that could make us acceptable before a holy God. But again, the Bible clearly says…

But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.” (Isaiah 64:6, NKJV)

As it is written: ‘There is none righteous, no, not one;‘” (Romans 3:10, NKJV)

This is bad news, but it gets even worse since the punishment for sin is spiritual death (separation from God forever).

For the wages of sin is death, but the [a]gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23, NKJV)

I Must See What God Has Provided For Me Through Christ’s Substitutionary Death And Bodily Resurrection

The good news of the gospel of grace centers in what Christ accomplished for us on the cross of Calvary and the empty tomb. The Lord Jesus Christ died in our place, taking the penalty or punishment we justly deserved.

All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6, NKJV)

His sacrifice for our sins fully paid our penalty, satisfying every one of God’s just, righteous, and holy demands against us! This sacrifice deals with all our sins and their penalties – past, present, and future.

But this Man (Jesus Christ), after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God,” (Hebrews 10:12, NKJV)

Why did God do this for you and me? The answer from Scripture is because He loves us and wants to save us from an eternal hell.

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8, NKJV)

The proof that God the Father accepted Christ’s payment for our sin is that He raised the Lord Jesus Christ up from the dead on the third day. This shows that God was fully satisfied with Christ’s work on the cross.

Who (Christ) was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.” (Romans 4:25, NKJV)

For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, NKJV)

I Must Believe Eternal Salvation And Life Is A Gift Of God To Me Apart From Any Religious Works

Because the Lord Jesus Christ fully and completely paid for all your sins when He died on the cross, what sins remain to be atoned for by your own good works? None! Salvation is not a reward for good people; it is the gift of God for sinners who trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation!

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16, NKJV)

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8–9, NKJV)

Think for a moment. If you could go to heaven by living a moral life, attempting to keep the ten commandments, being baptized, going to church, giving to the poor, or reforming society, etc., why would Jesus Christ have to die for you and for your sins? Christ’s work would have been for nothing!

Good works are to be the result of receiving the gift of salvation from the crucified and risen Savior!. They are never the means of salvation.

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain. (Galatians 2:20–21, NKJV)

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10, NKJV)

I Must Rest By Faith In God’s Promise And Assurance Of Eternal Life To Me

God’s free and gracious gift of salvation is personally received through an act of childlike faith in the risen Christ as your personal Savior.

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:” (John 1:12, NKJV)

You have no need to worry or wonder regarding your eternal destiny! Listen to God’s promise to those who transfer their faith from their good works to Christ’s finished work on the cross of Calvary.

He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.” (1 John 5:12–13, NKJV)

Do you know for sure where you will spend eternity?

So they said, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” (Acts 16:31, NKJV)

He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” (John 3:18, NKJV)
